Getting out of your comfort zone is always a challenge but most of the times it can also be rewarding, and it was exactly the case with this song.
Jazz is definitely not my cup of tea, I love hearing it but playing it as a guitar playing I find it quite difficult, especially for someone like me, self-taught that knows very little of music theory, all I can do is to use the little knowledge I have and go with the flow. Maybe I’m even being too presumptuous calling this a Jazz track, I guess a Jazzy Blues would be a better fit to describe this song but nonetheless, it’s a kind of style which I’m not very comfortable playing but I went for it.
The bass sets the mood of the swing and the guitar follows. The piano & organ fill in some blanks – again me playing keyboards on a jazzy tune, something I wouldn’t imagine myself doing… ever.
Like “Groove it” the swing of this song required an actual drummer instead of just a Logic Pro X Smart Drummer. Randy was the man again, given the circumstances great job!
I knew I wanted to add a vocal part to this tune but I was completely out of inspiration and one day I found Tyra Juliette on fiverr.com.
I had found the voice that I wanted but I was still not completely sure how to make it fit so I contact her and asked to just jam on top of the instrumental, some catchphrases, throw in some ad-libs and that’s it!
Oh man, her voice is something else, and Tyra was kind enough to record 4 different tracks with just her singing and jamming so I was able to pick the best parts and glued it all together. I hope you like it just as much as I did putting it all together!
